On June 2 – 4, 2010 the grade 5/6 class went to a science camp in Kananaskis Country called the Biogeoscience Institute. We stayed for two nights and two and a half days. We went with students from Vulcan Prairieview school. Throughout the whole experience we went on six hikes. We even did some bushwhacking. The water that we drank was from a real underground spring. This camp was once a prisoner of war camp during WWII and we learned some very interesting facts about that. We were taught so many things about trees and forests, including how to identify common Alberta trees. Did you know that all pine cones are not called “pine” cones? Some of them are spruce cones. We did a scavenger hunt with GPS units, played a land auction game and learned about glaciers.
We even got to see layers of rock flour from all the glaciers. We had a terrific time and were really tired by the time we got home.
